Dear Kid Saturday: Goodbye 4!

Dear Joe–

This is the last Dear Kid Saturday letter I will write to you as a four year old. This one will be a bit longer than usual, because I have so much to say to you.

I cannot believe you are going to be five, a whole hand! I remember turning five and being so excited about that, just like you are. I can’t wait to take you to build your bear and go bowling with you. As I write this, you’re outside playing with Lexi, telling her all about your birthday party and what you want it to be like.

You are such a smart boy, too smart sometimes. (Sneaky, sneaky!) You are the best thing that ever happened to your Mom and Dad, because without you, we’d probably not be nearly as grounded and level headed as we are.

You know, everyone always told me if I blinked my eyes, you’d be grown up. I never believed them, until recently. I swear, it seems like just yesterday I was pregnant with you, celebrating my 18th birthday, and then marrying your daddy.

Life hasn’t been great to us the whole time you’ve been around, but it’s because of you we’ve had the strength, the courage, and the will to pull through. I am so thankful to have you and so happy you drive me nuts. Life just wouldn’t be the same without you and your crazy antics.

My little baby has grown into a little man. I wish your “Na-na” was here to see you, because I know she’d be amazed with you too.

My promise to you is that no matter how rough and tough things get, and no matter how angry I may become at you during your teen years, I will always, always, love you and be proud of how far you’ve come–regardless of the buttons you push.

I love you with every ounce of my being…and I thank you for loving me in spite of my flaws, and seeing none of them.

Happy Early Birthday Sweetie!

Mom
